(I’m a sucker for detail!) I did a lot of testing with different blades and soaps, and I did 5 days of side-by-side comparisons at various Rex settings. Initially, I had planned to write a detailed narrative of the unique qualities of each razor. To my amazement, for me, it’s almost identical in efficiency and aggression to my Rex Ambassador at 2.5-a perfect companion.
In short, I’ve found it exactly what I was looking for: markedly efficient without being overly aggressive and a nice change of pace from my Rex. On the other hand, I think perhaps I should with gratitude accept the possibility I may have found perfection for my face.īased on advice from you all and a phone call with Matt at Timeless, I decided to place an order for a Timeless Titanium 0.95 Smooth Bar. Any thoughts where this lies on the Timeless or GC lines? Sharper blades like Astra SP or GSB necessitate lower settings.
My most enjoyable shaves require only a little concentration with the Ambassador: 2-2.5 (mild-moderate), 1-1.5 (mild) for ATG on my upper lip with a moderate blade-Lord Platinum. On rare occasion, my Rex feels heavy, and the titanium “feel” sounds intriguing. I’m been considering a Game Changer or titanium Timeless. The rest of my collection now seems lacking. To me, at my settings, I can casually drive the Rex and still find it markedly efficient without fearing bloodletting. My beloved vintages-my Fatboy & British Aristocrat-and even my ATT S1-they just weren’t the same anymore. Sadly, I discovered they had all lost their luster. I do enjoy me some variety, so I decided to work through the other razors in my collection in the first half of April. So in March, I made it a goal to use it every day. For a variety of reasons (travel & sending it back for warranty work) it didn’t see a lot of action for the next few months. After a couple of weeks, I felt like I had it dialed in, and we were getting along. It took me a while to appreciate the design and eerie efficiency. Although not unpleasant, it is so different from my more traditional razors. Although my Rex Ambassador was definitely love at first sight, it wasn’t love at first use.
